The Religion & Philosophy Department at Rose Bridge Academy is dedicated to the open study and exploration of religious beliefs and cultures. Students are encouraged to ponder the big questions of life and research a variety of moral issues enabling them to evaluate differing viewpoints. The curriculum content is determined by the Wigan SACRE and the Wigan Agreed syllabus. The Department uses a variety of teaching and learning strategies in its aim to make learning fun and interesting for all students. Religious Studies enables students to gain a better understanding of the world in which they live and their place within it. It also allows students to formulate their own opinions and ideas and to consider respectfully the viewpoints of others.

Students who study Religious Studies at GCSE level will follow the WJEC Eduqas GCSE (9-1) in Religious Studies Route A. The course is made up of 3 Components.
Component 1 – Religious, philosophical and ethical studies in the modern world.
Component 2 – Study of Christianity.
Component 3 – Study of Judaism.
Religious Studies is an option subject and students achieve well and get some outstanding results. Many students also go on to study the subject at A level.
